# Which Melbourne suburbs have no coffee cart travel fee?

> Any Melbourne venue within 20km of our Yarraville base pays no travel fee, which covers the CBD, Docklands, the inner west and most inner suburbs.

There is no travel fee for any Melbourne venue within 20km of our base at
19 Hall Street, Yarraville. That takes in the CBD, Docklands, Southbank, the inner
west, the inner north and most of the inner south-east, from Footscray and
Williamstown to Brunswick, Richmond and St Kilda. Past 20km, travel is charged per
kilometre and shown on your quote before you book.

That is the short answer. The rest of this post sets out where the line tends to
fall, which suburbs sit close to it, and what actually decides how a Melbourne
booking runs on the day.

## Where the 20km line falls

Yarraville sits just west of the CBD, which is why the free zone reaches further
into the west and the inner city than people expect. As a rough guide, these areas
sit comfortably inside it:

- **The city.** The CBD, Docklands, Southbank, South Wharf, East Melbourne and
  West Melbourne.
- **The inner west.** Footscray, Seddon, Kensington, Williamstown, Newport,
  Altona, Sunshine and Maribyrnong.
- **The inner north.** North Melbourne, Flemington, Moonee Ponds, Essendon,
Parkville, Carlton, Fitzroy, Collingwood, Brunswick and Coburg.
- **The inner south and east.** Port Melbourne, South Melbourne, Albert Park,
St Kilda, Prahran, South Yarra, Richmond, Cremorne and Abbotsford.

The major inner-city venues all fall in that zone too. The Melbourne Convention and
Exhibition Centre at South Wharf, for instance, is a short run from our base, and it
publishes its own entrances and parking on its
[plan your visit page](https://www.mcec.com.au/plan-your-visit). The Melbourne
Showgrounds, the sporting precinct around Melbourne Park and the office towers of the
Docklands are all inside the line.

## The suburbs close to the edge

Some middle-ring suburbs sit near 20km, and whether a venue lands inside or outside
depends on the exact address rather than the suburb name. Brighton, Kew, Hawthorn,
Camberwell, Preston, Heidelberg, Point Cook and the airport corridor around
Tullamarine are the ones we check address by address.

You do not need to work this out yourself. Send us the venue address with your
enquiry and the quote will say plainly whether travel applies. If it does, it is a
line on the quote, not a surprise after the event.

Further out, the outer suburbs and the regions sit past the line. Werribee, Box Hill,
Clayton, Dandenong and Frankston usually carry a travel charge, as do Geelong, the
Yarra Valley, the Mornington Peninsula, Ballarat and Bendigo. We cover all of them.
The full list of regions, with what each package includes, is on our
[coffee cart hire](/coffee-cart-hire) page, and our

## What matters more than distance

For most Melbourne bookings, the kilometres are the smallest part of the plan. These
are the things that shape the day:

- **Access.** Where the van parks, how far the cart travels from the loading area,
and whether there is a goods lift. A CBD tower with a booked dock is easy. A
rooftop with a shared passenger lift needs a conversation first.
- **Bump-in time.** Venues set their own windows for arrival and setup. Tell us yours
at enquiry so the crew arrive inside it.
- **Power.** We need two standard 10-amp sockets within reach, or one 20-amp outlet
for the larger cart. We bring our own water.
- **The program.** One barista pours up to 80 coffees an hour, and a second barista
doubles that to 160. When your busiest break falls matters more than where the
  venue is.

Confirm access, power and loading rules with your venue directly, because each one
sets its own and they change. If you are also weighing up the wider budget, our guide
to [what coffee cart hire costs in Melbourne](/blogs/melbourne/how-much-does-coffee-cart-hire-cost-in-melbourne)
goes through every line of a quote.

## How we see it

We set the free zone at 20km because that radius from Yarraville covers the part of
Melbourne where most of our corporate events happen: the city, the inner suburbs and
the offices and venues between them. Charging for the short drive to Docklands
would be a fee for the sake of a fee, and we would rather the package price be the
whole story for those clients.

Past 20km, we charge for travel and we say so on the quote. The usual advice is to
choose whichever provider sits closest to your venue to save on travel. We see it
differently. Distance is rarely what goes wrong at a Melbourne event. What our crews
notice is that the clock is set by the loading dock, not the odometer. A venue a few
kilometres from our base with a shared lift and a tight bump-in window can take more
planning than a regional winery with a car park beside the door.

So the better question to ask any provider is not how close they are. It is whether
travel is itemised before you book, and whether they ask about your access, your
power and your program before they quote. When those answers come early, the day
runs on cue wherever your venue sits.

## Frequently asked questions

### How is travel charged once a Melbourne venue is past 20km?

Past 20km from our Yarraville base, travel is charged per kilometre and itemised on your quote before you book, so it never appears on the invoice afterwards. The Mornington Peninsula and the Yarra Valley are booked often enough that we have the drive costed already, and Geelong and regional Victoria are quoted the same way.

### Is delivery and setup included for venues inside the 20km radius?

Yes. Our packages start from $999 for Standard and $1,499 for Unlimited, ex GST, and both include the cart, the barista, the espresso machine, specialty coffee, milks, cups, delivery, setup and pack-down. Inside 20km of Yarraville there is nothing to add for distance, so the package price is the number you plan around.

### Do you travel to Geelong, Ballarat and Bendigo?

Yes. From Yarraville we reach Geelong and the Bellarine, Ballarat, Bendigo, the Yarra Valley and the Mornington Peninsula, and we travel further into regional Victoria as well. Those venues sit past the 20km line, so the travel is shown on your quote up front. Give us the venue address and we will price it before you commit.

### What does a Melbourne venue need to provide for the cart?

Two standard 10-amp sockets within reach, or one 20-amp outlet for the larger cart, and a clear path from the loading area to where the cart will stand. We bring our own water, so plumbing is never the question. Confirm access, bump-in times and any loading rules with your venue directly, because every venue sets its own.
